Abstract

175,124. Eustege, T. P. Nov. 30, 1920. Stays.-A telescopic stay comprises an outer tubular member 1 formed with a longitudinal slot 2 and transverse depressions 9 or transverse slots communicating with the slot, and an inner rod 3 with an enlarged head 4 sliding within the tube 1. The head 4 may be rotatably mounted on the rod 3. A screwed pin 5, Fig. 3, works in a screwed hole in the head 4 and projects through the slot 2, a nut 6, integral with the pin, locking the parts together. A collar 7 engaging a recess in the head 4 prevents undue retraction of the pin. In a modified construction, Fig. 5, in which the nut 17 is rotatably mounted on the pin 18, the pin may be pushed downwards until a head 21 thereon has passed through a hole 20 in the bottom of the outer member when the parts are slack, and the window may be slightly opened to an extent determined by the length of a second slot 19 in the bottom of the outer member, but in order to open the window farther it is necessary to close the window and draw the pin upwards through the hole 20.
