Abstract
174,435. Parker, W. R. Oct. 25, 1920. Spray carburettors.-The fuel-inducing value of the depression in the region of the jet orifice is varied by admitting to such region a variable supply of compensating-air through a valve controlled independently or in conjunction with the throttle valve. A jet from the fuel tube c<3> discharges into a chamber c<4> whence capillary ducts c<5> deliver into air passages c<1>, the resulting emulsion being delivered through nozzles c<2> in the manner described in Specification 116,792. From the chamber c<4> a fixed tube a' extends upwardly along the axis of a barrel throttle valve b, and is provided at its upper end with a cone a<x> having a series of radial ducts a<4>. These ducts admit the compensating air, and are controlled by a valve a<3> actuated preferablv from the throttle valve. For this purpose, the throttle valve has a tubular extension b<2> carrying another tubular part b', to which the actuating arm b<3> is secured. The part b<4> has a tongue b<8> adapted to engage notches in the head a<7> of the spindle a<6> of valve a<3>. By raising and rotating the head a<7>, adjustment of the valve a<3> relative to the throttle valve may be effected. The valve a<3> has a port a<5>, which may register more or less with a port b<5> in the tubular part b<4>. The compensating air may therefore be graduated in quantity or cut off altogether, but it is such that it is reduced as the throttle is opened. The nozzles c<2> may decrease in height from the air intake towards the outlet side of the mixing-chamber. In a modification, a single nozzle may be arranged along the axis of the throttle valve and deliver fuel into a smallbore Venturi tube, primary air for breaking up the fuel being admitted through a calibrated passage in the base of the nozzle.
