174,427. Maddick, H. Oct. 21, 1920. Locking nuts.-A nut a is locked to a bolt b by means of a ring g of helical formation formed by stamping and pressing sheet metal and having a set or step h. The ring has a V-edge on its inner periphery to engage the threads of the bolt, which is gapped at h. An arm l extending beyond the faces of the nut is provided on the outer periphery of the ring, and is bent down into engagement with a face or corner of the nut when locked, or may be hammered to tighten the ring. In a modification, the arm l may have a central hole making the locking-device of figure eight formation. The ring may be provided with an internal spar, or with teeth, roughings, &c. to resist tendency to slack back.
