Abstract
173,778. MauclÞre, P. A. P. V. Jan. 8, 1921, [Convention date]. Direct air-pressure apparatus, automatic; floats; valves for pressure fluid, actuation of.- Relates to systems of the kind described in Specifications 144,688, [Class 47 (ii), Fire-extinguishing &c.], 153,587, 154,595, [Class 47 (ii), Fire-extinguishing &c.], 154,891, 166,551, and 172,329, comprising a storage, reservoir 1, Fig. 3, and two alternately-acting auxiliary receptacles 2<a>, 2<b> through which the liquid passes to the discharge pipe 14. The discharge of the auxiliary receptacles 2<a>, 2<b> is controlled by an automatic reversing-device, and is effected by protective gas in a closed pipe circuit comprising a high-pressure gas tank 6 and a low-pressure gas tank 8, with an interposed compressor 11 operated at will by hand or by automatic or non- automatic mechanical means. The liquid is fed from the reservoir 1 to the receptacles 2a, 2b either by gravity, or, if at a higher level, by sucticn from the low-pressure tank 8. A multiple system for delivery at a number of points may be employed, the auxiliary receptacles 2<a>, 2b being arranged in pairs connected in parallel to a double pipe line from central high and low pressure gas tanks. As each receptacle 2a or 2<b>, Fig. 3, is emptied by means of gas acting through a pipe 4 and branch pipes 4a or 4<b>, the gas pressure is transferred to the companion receptacle by an automatic reversing-device 16, shown diagramatically in Fig. 7. The receptacles 2a, 2<b> are provided with floats 51 (of cup form fitted with emptying-siphons), each adapted in its lowest position to close a gas-inlet valve 50, whereby the gas pressure is transferred to a diaphragm 28 or 29, through a needle-valve 43 controlled by an auxiliary diaphragm 41 or 42 in communication with the discharge pipe 14. Operation of the diaphragm 28 or 29 causes the operation of valves 39, 40, through lever mechanism, to transfer the gas pressure to the receptacle 2<a> or 2<b> next to be emptied. The pipe 14<1> connecting the delivery pipe 14 with the reversing- device may be fitted at its junction with the pipe 14, with a receptacle adapted to regulate the. discharge of liquid. The high and low pressure tanks 6, 8 are connected together by a pipe 12 fitted with a valve 13 adapted when opened to restore the tanks 6, 8 to atmospheric pressure during periods when the plant is inoperative.
