Abstract

173,680. Biasci, A. Dec. 1, 1920. Balance or differential gearing.-Relates to motor-cycles and side-cars in which the rear wheel of the cycle and side-car are 'driven through differential, gearing. The differential gear is of the spur-wheel type and is enclosed in a rotary casing 1 carried in bearings 16 at one end in the cycle frame and at the other end on the extended hub of the cycle wheel. One differential pinion 7 is fixed to the cycle hub 10, and the other pinion 6 is fixed on an axle 8 which passes through the hub and is connected by universal and detachable joints 12 and a connecting-shaft to the side-car wheel. When the motor-cycle alone is to be used the connecting-shaft is removed and the differential gear is locked by a sliding pin 19 retained in position by a spring catch. The side-car shaft may be connected to either end of the axle 8 and the differential gear can be arranged on either side of the cycle wheel.
