Abstract
171,582. Abrams, J. E. Oct. 7, 1920. Lateral-splash guards for vehicle wheels comprise an arm or frame 8 mounted on the end of the wheel axle and carrying at its lower end an outwardly and upwardly projecting pivoted arm or frame 11 carrying a flap or guard 15, so that the arm 11 yields about its pivot 10 if the flap or arm comes into contact with the kerb &c. The arm 11 is acted upon by one or more resilient stays 12, 13, and is positively prevented from moving down below the horizontal by a projecting rod or stop 14. The arm 8 is carried by the outer member 6 of a ball bearing, the inner member 3 of which is secured to a ring 4 of angle section, adapted to be secured to the end of the axle or to the axle cap by radiallyadjustable screws 5. The flap 15 may be made of " ruberoid," bound at the edges with sheet metal and reinforced with strips or plates of sheet metal, and may be secured to the arm 11 by a rod 17 engaging eyes on the arm and on the upperedges of the flap.
