Abstract

Lateral-splash guards.-A flexible lateral-splash guard 2, Figs. 1 and 2, of leather, rubber, &c. for vehicle wheels is normally held in a bent or buckled state (as shown in Fig. 2) by two or more tension springs 5, in order to assist the return of the guard to its normal shape and position after it has been deflected by an obstruction. The guard is suspended from the axles or axle caps by a sheet-metal plate 4, either rigidly by screws passing through the axle caps, or with the interposition of ball bearings when suspended from a revolving part of the axle or wheel, the guard then being under the control of a spring or gravity. The guard may be provided with a rearward extension carrying an additional splashguard behind the road wheel.
