Abstract

218,350. Garvie, J. Nov. 13, 1923. Lateral-splash guards for the wheels of motorvehicles, comprising a shoe A carried by one end of a rod or tube B detachably connected at its other end to the footboard or body ledge of the vehicle, are characterized by a torsion spring E enclosed within a sleeve-like portion of a vertical pin A<1> upon the shoe, one end of the spring being attached to the end B<2> of the rod B and the other end to the pin. The shoe is normally retained in a straight-ahead position by the engagement of a projection F with a notch F', and the spring serves to restore the shoe to this normal position after it has been deflected as by the wheel in steering. A guard may be provided on each side of the wheel. For rear wheels the rod or tube B is straight in plan view.
