Abstract

Lateral-splash guards for vehicles comprise a guard-piece or pad C which is formed with two slot holes E and is suspended from and connected to a plate A by a staple B in such a manner that it can rise and fall freely. The plate A, Fig. 5, is suspended from the hub of the wheel by a pivot passing through a slot D in the plate so that the whole guard may rise to clear large obstructions or be lifted out of working position. A rod i riveted to the upper part of the plate is attached to a spring F, the other end of the spring being attached to a fixed part of the vehicle. As applied to the front wheel, a cranked rod L connects the upper end of the spring F to the ordinary mud-guard. According to the Provisional Specification, the guard-piece, in the form of a brush or a strip of rubber or leather, is fixed to the lower end of the plate A, and in the case of a steering-wheel, the rod rising upwardly from the plate works in a slotted socket on the vehicle.
