Abstract
Low-boiling hydrocarbons and a residue suitable for lubricating are obtained by heating under pressure mineral oils and hydrocarbons other than tar oils in presence of tin and hydrogen, and fractionating. The gas or other oil, tin, and hydrogen at 15-30 atmos. pressure are heated in a tin-coated pressure vessel to about 300 DEG C. for about 6 hours. On fractionation up to 180 DEG C. 70-80 per cent of the product distils over.ALSO:Low boiling hydrocarbons and a residue suitable for lubricating are obtained by heating under pressure mineral oils and hydrocarbons other than tar oils in presence of tin and hydrogen, and fractionating. In an example, gas oil is charged into a tin-coated pressure vessel, tin is added, and hydrogen is admitted until the pressure is 15-30 atmospheres. The vessel is heated to about 300 DEG C. for about 6 hours. On fractionation to 180 DEG C. 70-80 per cent of the product distils over.
