Casings; brushholders. - An electric motor, particularly designed for use with suction sweepers, is enclosed in a cylindrical casing provi'ded with a bridge - piece which carries the upper bearing and is held in place by bolts passing down to the base of the casing. The bridge-piece C<2> is formed in one piece with a ring C carried on the upper edge of the casing A and held in place by bolts C' passing through slots in the field magnets B<4> and screwed into the floor of the casing. The field magnets are held between the ring C and a ledge B' on the inside of the casing. The bridge-piece is forked at its ends as shown in Fig. 2. Collars A<4>, C<6> are provided in the base of the casing and the bridgepiece to take the bearings of the motor spindle. A metal or fibre cap D<9> is secured to the bridgepiece C<2> by screws D<10>. The brushes D<3> are carried in pockets D<4> secured to a ring D<5> of insulating-material, which is secured to the bridgepiece C<2> by screws D<6> passing through slots in the ring, which is therefore capable of annular adjustment. The switch may be enclosed in a chamber E' integral with the casing A, or may be mounted against a circular opening in the casing as shown in Fig. 4. In this case the top of the switch box H is sloped off as shown at H' to facilitate operating the switch with the foot without resting on the lever, which is enclosed in a screwed sleeve H<4> locked by a spring washer H<5>.
