Abstract

A lubricant for shafts, gear-wheels, &c. is prepared by melting and straining together say 300 lb. of beef tallow and 20 lb. of beeswax at say 150 DEG F., and stirring in caustic-potash solution, say 48 lb. of 15 DEG Be. and 50 lb. of water until saponification takes place. The compound is stirred about every 15 minutes while cooling. Coloring-matter and say 1 lb. of oil of mirbane are stirred in before the soap sets.
