Abstract
Soap is manufactured in 20 mins. to 3 hrs. by mixing the fatty acids, fats, and/or oils and excess alkali at substantially cold process temperatures, then rapidly mixing in a solution of resin in further fat or oil preferably equivalent to the excess alkali. On discharge into the frames the mass solidifies and then becomes p liquid with evolution of heat; it may be left to cool or be passed over chilling rolls. For example, 20 gallons of 32 DEG B<\>ae caustic soda are run into a mixture of 36 gallons of tallow and 12 gallons of palm kernel oil, and 4 gallons of a solution of resin in an equal amount of palm kernel oil and at 110--135 DEG F. is tipped in; the mass is stirred rapidly for about 10 sec., and is discharged through an extra large valve at the bottom of the pan. When fillers are used the resin-oil mixture is added while at 180--212 DEG F., and the fillers at the same temperature are added immediately after the opening and closing of the soap.
