Abstract

170,220. Holmes, G. R., and Wisch, W. J. Dec. 8, 1920. Locking nuts. - A nut is locked to a bolt 6 by means of an eccentrically bored washer 8 which has an opening 9 slightly larger in diameter than the bolt provided with an inwardly projecting ratchet tooth 12, and a tongue or a pair of spaced rigid tongues 10 set at an obtuse angle to the plane of the washer. The tongues 10 extend laterally over the body of the washer and have angular inner faces 11. On tightening the nut, the tongues 10 are engaged by a corner and the washer rotates with the nut. Any tendency to slack back causes the ratchet tooth 12 to embed itself into the bolt.
