Abstract

184,329. Coleatti, C. June 22, 1921. Locking nuts and bolts.-A nut and bolt or the like are both locked against rotation to the material through which the bolt passes. The locking-means for the nut comprises a sheetmetal plate A having two enlarged portions 1, 2, connected by a strip 3, the portion 2 having an extended tongue 4. The portion 2 has a round central hole to accommodate the shank of the bolt &c., and is provided with projections 6 to engage cavities in the work, or with triangular serrations to engage woodwork. Alternatively it may be secured against rotation by an indenting blow from a punch. In operation the portion 2 acts as a washer and the portion 1 is bent over so that the central aperture fits around the nut, the tongue 4 being bent into engagement with a recess 5. The bolt head is locked by a sheetmetal device B having a central hole to accommodate the shank, two projections 6 to engage the work, and upturned parts 11 to engage the sides of the bolt-head. In a modification the nut may be locked by a similar device formed in two parts the turned up portions of each part em. bracing the nut from opposite sides, and the under portions each comprising a halt washer.
