Abstract
169,895. Caruso, B. Sept. 4, 1920. Vapour engines. - In an aqueous ammonia power plant working on a closed cycle, the ammonia from a generator A passes through a pipe a and a superheater SA to a reciprocating-engine or turbine M, and exhausts into a helical coil and collects in a chamber C in a surface condenser B from which it is passed by a pump P through pipes e<1>, e<2> to a container E. The condensed ammonia is then supplied as cooling medium to the condenser, and passes through pipe t containing a heat insulator R to the generator A. A dome D mounted on the condenser contains a heat insulator Rx which permits the passage of ammonia gas, a heating-coil k, m, and a connection b controlled by a pump P to the pipe a. A uniform pressure, it is stated, is established in the parts B, D, A, and heat transference to the chamber B from the dome D and generator A is prevented by the insulators. The ammonia vaporized in B by the heat of the exhaust, is heated in D and passed by pump P to the superheater and thence to the engine.
