Power-generating systems.-In apparatus for storing and utilizing excess energy as described in the parent Specification, water is evaporated and steam is condensed in chambers separate from the storage chambers. Direct contact condensers or evaporators Cu, Co, Fig. 1, are connected to the low and high temperature storage chambers a, b by pipe systems in which are arranged pumps Pu, Po, and valves U1 - - U4 and O1 - - 04. When the turbine h is in operation, the valves U1, U4 are open and the valves U2, U3 are closed, water being drawn from the chamber a by the pump Pu and passed into the chamber Cu, where it is brought into contact with exhaust steam from the turbine. At the same time, the valves 01, 04 are open and the valves 02, 03 are closed, hot water being drawn from the chamber band evaporated in the chamber Co. During the working of the compressor, diluted lye from the upper part of the chamber NaHo is passed into the tubular apparatus through a pipe l1, steam being drawn off through a pipe c and forced through a pipe d directly into the tubes of the tubular apparatus.
