266,321. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Ges. Feb. 17, 1926, [Convention date]. Vapour engines.-In a vapour power plant, a medium is used of which the boiling point at one atmosphere is at least 120‹ C. The medium, e.g. xylol, is heated in a coiled generator 1 at a pressure close to its critical pressure to at least its critical temperature, it then expands in an engine 3 and passes to an air condenser 4, the extensive cooling of the fluid below a temperature of saturation corresponding to its final pressure is avoided. The fluid is returned to the generator by a pump 2. The heat in the exhaust and heat absorbed by the air in the condenser are used for the combustion air. The above plant may be used in conjunction with an ordinary power plant, the condenser heat being supplied to combustion air, and the exhaust vapour heat to heat the feed water.
