Abstract

167,806. Kettelwell, H. M. Nov. 5, 1920. Stoppers, plug.-Relates to air-tight closures for storage vessels for beer &c. of the type comprising a loosely - fitting cover which is dropped into the mouth of the vessel and closes the same by means of an elastic packing-ring. The closure, which is formed of sheet metal of substantially flat U-shape in axial section and has a beaded external flange resting on the lip of the vessel, has an upwardly-dished central portion and a single externally-presented annular groove for the reception of the elastic ring. The lid g, Fig. 2, is conical and ha a bead o over which a rubber ring p is sprung. On inserting the lid into the mouth of the vessel, the ring is rolled upwards until it slips into a groove k and secures the lid is shown. In a modified arrangement, the mouth of the vessel is also grooved and a pneumatic tube m inflated after the insertion of the lid, replaces the ring p.
