Abstract

167,209. Vickers, Ltd., and Duncan, T. S. March 5, 1920. Liquid fuel, supplying.-Fuel for the engines of aircraft is delivered from the main tanks A to the service tank D by wind-driven pumps C, C', which are primed by a hand pump B. The flow is controlled by a float E, Fig. 2, in the service tank and surrounding the supply-pipe 6; the float valve is formed by a coned ring E<1> resiliently carried by the float and closing a number of outlet orifices F<1> from the pipe 6. The float has a vent-pipe E<4> extending to the bottom to enable any fuel that has leaked into the float to be forced out by the difference in pressure that may occur between the interior and exterior of the float. A vent-pipe F is provided for the service tank. An overflow pipe returns fuel from the service tank to the main tank and a second pipe through which fuel flows continually has an indicator 10<a> therein; the overflow pipe may act as the indicator pipe. The service tank supplies the carburettors through the valved pipes 8. The hand-pump is primed from the service tank.
