Abstract
166,762. Leeming, E. L., and Stopford, A. May 12, 1920. Road surface boxes.-Consists in forming a man-hole with stanchions of plain or reinforced concrete at each vertical edge, grooved to receive blocks or slabs of concrete or other material forming the sides of the man-hole. In the form shown, the man-hole is formed with a stanchion A at each vertical edge reinforced with wires or rods a around which horizontal wires may be looped, and grooved at a<1> to receive the edges of concrete or other slabs B dovetailed together to form the sides of the man-hole. The blocks at one side have cast in one with them steps C, reinforced by wires c<1>, and formed with hand-holes c<2>. The cover D is of concrete, metal or other material. A modification is described for deeper man-holes, in which an enlargement at the bottom is formed with short concrete stanchions at each vertical edge surmounted by a horizontal concrete slab; the stanchions of one side of the shaft part of the man-hole being supported by this slab. The Provisional Specification also states that the sides of the man-hole may be bricked, concrete blocks of the size of the bricks carrying steps cast in one with them being used where steps are required.
