Abstract

219,169. Jones, F. H. July 11, 1923. Flooring and ceiling blocks.-Hollow concrete beams for floors, ceilings, roofs, and the like comprise an exterior concrete shell 1, a series of transverse bridges 2, 3 and a series of longitudinal core plates 4 supported by the bridges. Auxiliary bridge members 5 may be provided to extend across the bases of the bridges, being formed with flanges 6. The legs 3 of the bridges 2 are recessed to receive the inner flanges 6 and the spaces between the flanges 6 form recesses 8 in which the lower edges of the side core plates 4 and longitudinal reinforcing-rods 9 are received. The legs 3 may be inclined and may have tapered sides. The core plates 4 may be of asbestos. The bridge-members 2, 3 may be dispensed with and core members 11 mav be employed as shown in Fig. 4, such members 11 being bent from sheet iron, asbestos, or the like to form three-sided bridge members. Additional support for the rods 9 may be provided by tie-rods 10. The beams are moulded by placing the bridges 2, 3 in the mould, with or without the auxiliary bridges, and pouring in sufficient concrete to cover the bottom of the mould. The longitudinal core plates 4 are then placed in position at the sides and top and the mould is filled with concrete.
