Abstract

136,682. Atherton, R. D. Jan. 17, 1919. Walls; columns; wall ties.-In a wall formed of two rows of blocks or slabs with a filling of con crete, a metal skeleton is provided. and the blocks are secured thereto at intervals by clips and are keyed together by flat bars on edge in the bed joints. The skeleton comprises bottom and top channel beams b, b<1> and I-section stanchions d, all cleated together and bolted to the foundation course a. Special clips m, Figs. 3 and 4, are further provided for connecting the stanchions with the flanges of the beams b, b<1>, the clips being slotted to embrace the flanges of the stanchions, and bent over and bolted to the flanges of the beams. The slabs are grooved to receive bars j in the bed joints, and opposite bars are secured to the stanchions by clips k, Figs. 6 and 7, which are slotted to fit over the bars j and have U-bends k<1> to embrace the flanges of the stanchions. The corner blocks are rightangled and are secured to corner stanchions in a similar manner. Inside walls may be built of single courses of slabs without concrete filling.
