Abstract

The building system uses a reinforced concrete or plain concrete substructure with permanent formwork of a precast cellular lightweight concrete construction. The formwork may take diverse forms, e.g. rectangular panels or trough sections for beams or columns respectively. The resultant structure has good thermal and acoustic insulation properties, and spacer elements if necessary may be utilised and left embedded in the in situ concrete core. Typical formwork may use standard rectangular panels to form the base and two parallel side walls. The transverse joints between panels may be of the tongue and groove type, and the longitudinal joints may be similar incorporating half rebated panel edges.
