Abstract
541,242. Casting beams and pillars in situ. HOLE, E. R., and TRUSSED CONCRETE STEEL CO., Ltd. May 15, 1940, No. 8722. [Class 20 (ii)] Pillars and beams are cast in situ by erecting a skeleton framework support, lining the support with precast slabs, or other facing material, filling between the slabs with concrete, and, after setting, removing the supporting framework. For a pillar the framework is built up of angle iron uprights 1 disposed at the corners with their flanges facing inwardly and supported at intervals by adjustable transverse members 3 of angle or T-bar section, formed of bars at 2 to the uprights and notched or slotted at their other ends, adjustably, to engage either pins 5 on the opposite uprights, or locking pins 8 passed through apertures in the turned over ends of other bars. The ends of the transverse frame bars instead of being pivoted may be welded to the uprights. The panels 12 are disposed between the uprights on the inner side of the flanges so as to straddle the spaces between opposed uprights and the corners may be clipped together by clips 13, or plates wired to the uprights. The inside surfaces of the panels may be ribbed to bind with the concrete and the edges may be bevelled. The pillar is cast in successive courses, each course being stamped. The shuttering for a joint between a column and beams is shown in Figs 6 and 7 and comprises spaced uprights 20 of channel section, secured by bolts 18 which pass into apertures 17 cast in opposite faces at the top of the column and joined in spaced relationship by upper and lower transverse bars 36 on opposite sides of the column. The upper bars support the lower angles, 22, 22A of the beam skeleton supports, while the upper angles 24A which define the widths of the beams in one transverse direction are carried by the projecting ends of the upper angles 24 which define the widths of the beam in the other transverse direction. The angle bar for those beams are inter connected on each side by vertical struts 25 which are interconnected in turn by further horizontal angle bars 27 and screw bolts and the lower angle bars for these beams are further supported by inclined struts 23 projecting from the upright channel - section bars. In a modification for cases in which the width of the beams is not greatly less than the width of the column, the upper angle bars for the beams are supported directly by the upper ends of the channel uprights, the lower angle bars being directly connected at their ends to these uprights. The precast panels 29, 30 are disposed to straddle the spaces between the angle bars and the concrete forming the beams is placed between the panels.
