Abstract
162,378. Taylor, r. D. G. Jan. 27, 1920. Expanding pulley gearing comprises driving and driven pulleys each with a fixed flange 1, Fig. 2, and a movable flange 2, the flanges 2 being movable in unison by spring means. The wedging of the belt together with the action of springs 23 tends to separate the flanges. The flanges 2 are .thrust inwards by turning cams 3 relatively to fixed cams 6. Each cam 3 is connected by a crank arm 8 and spring rod 9 to a crank arm 11 controlled by hand. Each rod 9 comprises a spring 14, Fig. 4, which acts when the rod is in tension, the rod acting positively when in compression. Another pair of rods 9<a> may be used to balance the thrust upon the cams 3 in which the springs 14<a> act when the rods are in compression. Crank arms 11 of different lengths may be used to keep the 'belt in tension. Specification 142,742 is referred to.
