157,614. Cooper, R. Nov. 22, 1919. Sanitary and hygienic devices.-In an hygienic attachment for telephone instruments of the type in which. an annular casing containing an absorbent pad saturated with a volatile disinfectant is arranged between the casing of the instrument and a mouthpiece &c., the pad is arranged between two coaxial cylinders of sheet material. In the form shown in Fig. 3. a tube A preferably of metal with lateral perforations B has an external thread C for attachment to the transmitter and an internal thread D for attaching to a nipple on the mouthpiece F. The tube A carries a flange A<1> against which rests a disc G with screwed socket H engaging the periphery of the casing J, and a second flange L in contact with the rear wall K of the casing. The pad M of cotton wool is enclosed between cylinders N, O of perforated sheet metal or the like. Means such as a hole in the easing may be provided for introducing fresh supplies of disinfectant. In a modification, the perforated tube A may be dispensed with, the casing in this case screwing directly on to the transmitter. The device may be similarly applied to receivers.
