[Class 40 (iv).] A disinfecting attachment for telephone mouthpieces comprises a ring-like member 9 having an outer ring 9a adapted to engage over the mouthpiece 2 and an inner ring 9b which extends into the mouthpiece and forms an annular chamber 9c for a disinfecting pad 7. The walls 9d, 9f, 9e of the chamber are perforated with apertures 11, and the wall 9d is of such internal diameter as to afford a free passage 10 to the mouthpiece for the transmission of speech. The rings 9a, 9b may be formed integrally as shown or may be made separately, in which case the ring 9b is formed at the front with an outwardly extending flange adapted to be clamped against the front face of ring 9a by the flanged cap 13. Instead of perforating the walls of the disinfectant chamber, one or more of such walls may be constituted by or fitted with perforated metal or wire gauze. The device is mounted on the mouthpiece in a readily detachable manner by means of a continuous helical spring 12 located in a peripheral groove 9g in the ring 9a so as to project through slots therein. Alternatively, spring clips may be provided for holding the device in position.
