Abstract

151,371. Palmer, H. J., and Telephone Manufacturing Co. June 24, 1919. Mouthpieces; sanitary and hygienic devices.- The usual mouthpiece of a transmitter is replaced by a sliding sleeve the outer end of which is closed by a curved baffle-plate. The sleeve is secured in position by a bayonet-joint and is provided with apertures, through which the sound waves pass when the sleeve is in its outer position, and a detachable split ring carrying a pad saturated with a disinfectant. When used in noisy places, the external sounds are cut off from the diaphragm by pushing in the sleeve to close the apertures, and the baffle plate is applied to the throat of the user. The sleeve B<1>, closed at its outer end by a baffle-plate B<2>, is secured in position by a bayonetjoint and is provided with apertures B<6> and with a ring D carrying an absorbent pad E. The slot of the bayonet-joint is elongated in order that the sleeve B<1> may be pushed in when the transmitter is used in noisy places, thereby closing the apertures B<6>.
