Feed - water, supplying. - In gravity - feed apparatus for returning condensed steam to a boiler, of the kind in which a float 1 in a feedchamber above the boiler operates valves 2, 3 controlling the admission and exhaust of boiler steam to and from the chamber, the valve 3, instead of controlling the exhaust of steam directly, controls the passage of steam to a piston or diaphragm device 5 operating a larger exhaust valve 6. The piston device may be counterweighted, or it may be provided with a second piston 11 so acted upon by the boiler steam that the exhaust valve is closed when the pressure in the feed-chamber has fallen to a certain point.
