Back-pedalling brake and free-wheel arrangements.- In a coaster hub employing a screw-threaded driving- member for actuating driving and braking cones. the resilient frictional drag device for ensuring the necessary relative movement of the parts is, during driving, adapted to be disengaged owing to the relative movement of the brake cone with respect to the driving-cone and to the drag device. The driving-cone 2 is mounted upon the internally screw-threaded sleeve portion 1<a> of the brake cone 1 and is held thereon by a spring ring 5, relative rotation between the two cones being prevented by the engagement of projections 3 on the cone 2 with slots 4 in the cone 1. The slots 4 are also engaged by lugs 7 on a sleeve 6, which by its bent-out portions 11 bearing upon the brake member 9, constitutes the drag device: a compression spring 8 fixed at 10 to the cone 1 bears at its other end upon the lugs 7 and so tends to keep the parts 1, 9 in engagement. In driving, the parts 1<a>, 1, 6, 9 move to the right until the lugs 7 engage with the projections 3. The cone 2 is then moved into engagement with the hub, and at this stage further axial movement of the drag device is prevented. The parts 1<a>, 1, however, continue their movement to the right until the cone 1 engages with the cone 2, when these parts rotate together with the hub and the driving-member. The brake member 9 is then free between the drag device and the cone 1.
