Abstract

12,094. Rigby, G. E. May 22. Clutches, arrangements of.-Comprises the arrangement of a friction clutch in the back wheel of a motor-cycle. The road-wheel hub B is carried on a rotary sleeve E, which is itself supported by a fixed axle C. The engine-driven belt-pulley A is slidably mounted on the sleeve E, and is formed with a conical member a engaging a cone b on the road wheel. A spring F normally holds the clutch in engagement, and the pulley A is moved inwards to release the clutch by a bar g<1> operated by a rod g and a nut G. An engine-starting sprocket H is mounted on the other end of the sleeve E. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of clutch-operating means in which the nut G is formed with arms g bearing directly against a ball-bearing ring a<1> on the pulley A.
