Actuated or applied by running wheel.-An internal hub brake, applied by the rotation of the hub through a friction clutch or coupling controlled by the rider, is adapted to be controlled by back-pedalling. As shown, the chain-wheel 26, which drives the hub through a oneway clutch 27, is connected by an oppositely-acting one-way clutch 40 to a disk 41 keyed to an internally screw-threaded member 44 engaging with a fixed screw-threaded member 43; thus, on back-pedalling, parts 45, 11, 9 are pressed to the left, causing a friction cone 7, keyed to the hub, to engage with a cone 6 working upon a fixed screw-thread 24, with the result that a cone 5 is forced into the anchored expanding brake 4. The roller clutch 40 may be replaced by a coupling acting in the axial direction.
