Abstract

154,569. Barbarou, M. J. B. Nov. 24, 1919, [Convention date]. Force-feed lubricating.- An internal-combustion engine for motor-vehicles, aeroplanes, &c. is lubricated by oil under pressure supplied by the flywheel acting as a centrifugal pump. The flywheel 3 is bolted to a flange 1 of a pinion b mounted on the crank shaft a and driving a cam shaft c. Holes 4 lead from the interior spout-like periphery. of the rim 3<a> to the outer periphery, the perforated rim acting to force oil from the casing through conduits 6, 7 into a large collecting vessel 8, placed below the highest end of the conduit 6. From the vessel 8 oil is led to the crank shaft bearings. A second conduit 10 at the upper end of the casing leads oil to the bearings of the cam shaft c through a conduit 9. These bearings may, however, be lubricated from the vessel 8. Leakage is prevented by an annular disk 5, in a cavity of which rotates a flange 2 of the pinion b, the flange having helical teeth at its periphery to return the oil tending to leak. The inner edge of the disk 5 forms a channel to collect oil escaping from the rim of the flywheel.
