Abstract

153,514. Hall, H. C., and Rolls Royce, Ltd. Feb. 25, 1920. Alloys.-An aluminium alloy contains about 0.1 to less than 3 per cent of copper, 0.1-2 per cent of titanium, and 6-16 per cent of zinc, with or without not more than 1.5 per cent of antimony or magnesium or both in place of a corresponding amount of aluminium. Iron up to 0.6 per cent, silicon up to 0.4 per cent, and other impurities up to 0.4 per cent may also be present. The alloy may be made by first preparing an aluminium-copper-titanium alloy and adding this in small pieces to a bath of molten commercial aluminium with or without the simultaneous addition to the bath of an aluminium-copper alloy, zinc being afterwards added. Antimony and magnesium, if required, are preferably added last with a small percentage of the zinc.
