Abstract

153,391. Perl, A. H. F. Aug. 12, 1919. Splitting.-A hand-operated machine, stated to be applicable for cutting wood among other uses, consists of two frames hinged together and carrying co-operating shear blades, arranged to rest by rollers on a bench, table, &c. When pressure is put on one of the frames which serves as a table for the material to be cut, the jaws of the blades close up and effect the cut. The line of the cut may be at right-angles or at an acute angle to the plane of the table. Fig. 1 shows the machine for cutting at right-angles. The table 3 having a blade 1 at the end is hinged to the frame 9, 10 which rests by rollers 26, 27 on a bench or table. The frame 5 which carries the co-operating blade 4 is also hinged to the frame 9, 10 and rests by rollers 13, 14 on the bench &c. The table 3 and frame 5 are kept in normal position by springs 7 and 30. Stops 24, 25 limit the upward and downward movements. The machine is brought into action by pressure on the table 3. In Fig. 5 the machine is shown adapted to cut at a bevel. The frame 5 is cranked upwards to carry the knife 4 at an acute angle to the plane of the table 3, the rest of the parts being correspondingly modified. The brackets 18, 19 are slotted to allow adjustment of the angle of the cut.
