Abstract

246,668. Bolton, E. M. Feb. 2, 1925. Table and like knives.-A knife is provided with a wing-piece which, with the blade, constitutes a pair of jaws for gripping a piece of cake, &c. cut by the knife. As shown the wing-piece b<1> is fixed by a spring-hinge H to the end of the blade b and is moved away from the blade when cutting the cake by pressing upon a button C; the part cut is gripped between the parts b, b<1> on removing pressure from the button; the hinge may be carried by a spring clip so that the wing-piece may be detachably connected to a knife. In a modification the wing-piece is formed integrally with the blade at the tip of the latter and is pressed towards the blade to grip the part cut; a chain limits the movement of the wing-piece from the blade. The knife may have a double cutting-edge and one or both edges of the wing- piece may be sharpened. According to the Provisional Specification, the handle of the knife may be cranked and the wing piece may be provided with a handle which may be cranked.
