Abstract

Press knives.-A press cutter or knife of circular, oval, or other outline for cutting-out labels and other articles of paper, leather, &c. is provided on its rear face with a tenon 9, Figs. 1 and 4, dovetailed into the body of the cutter and adapted to engage a groove in the face of the movable platen and to be secured there by a screw 4 passing centrally through the tenon. The screw serves also to secure a U- shaped internal clearing-spring 3, Figs. 1 and 4, which, in the case of cutters of small diameter, may be a helical spring; or the screw may be centrally bored to guide a rod 16, Fig. 5, secured to a clearing-spring 15 of the shape shown in Fig. 5. The tenons project beyond the cutters, and are bored to guide rods 12 which are provided with countersunk extremities 13 which, under the action of the springs 10, serve to clamp the work during the action of cutting. The cutters have clearing-holes 11.
