Abstract

126,529. Dexter, F. July 2, 1918. Scissors.-In scissors for cutting fruit, flowers, &c. provided with curved cutting- blades and means for gripping the article cut, the gripping means comprise a rigid curved jaw a slidably and oscillatably mounted by a screw e and slot d on the blade f and yieldingly forced against the other blade b by one or more springs h engaging a uose c on the jaw. A flange m at the rear of the jaw engages the back of the blade f when the scissors are opened. In a modification, two slots and screws are provided, one of the slots being longer than the other and the end of the spring being cranked to engage behind the back of the blade f. In another modification. the jaw is connected to the blade f by two screws and slots and pressed towards the other blade by a helical spring disposed within a gap in the jaw between the slots, the spring being secured to the blade f. The gripping-edge of the jaw is preferably inclined. to correspond with the bevel of the blade b.
