Abstract

152,616. Baron, H., (Signal Ges.). Oct. 16, 1920. Subaqueous audible signals.-The diaphragms and microphones of subaqueous sound signal receivers are separately tuned before coupling. The microphones are constructed, as described in Specification 14210/15, so as to have uniformly reproducible acoustic properties. For this purpose, the flanges k which grip the diaphragm a are ground on to each other, and the electrodes b, f and nut g are made with concave faces so as to grip the diaphragm and the back of the casing at their peripheries. The diaphragm a is preferably of bronze. The stem s of the electrode f serves for bolting the microphone as a whole to the main diaphragm m, the nut n being covered by a metal seal u. The receiver as a whole has two resonance frequencies depending on the natural frequencies of the diaphragm m and of the microphone and on the coupling between them; it is preferred to make the natural frequency of the diaphragm m higher than the signalling frequency and the natural frequency of the microphone higher still, the lower of the two resultant frequencies being made to coincide with the signalling frequency.
