Abstract

569,510. Telephone transmitters. BRUSH DEVELOPMENT CO. June 26, 1943, No. 10376. Convention date, June 27, 1942. [Class 40 (iv)] A piezo - electric microphone comprises a crystal 5 connected to a diaphragm 3 and carried by a massive mounting disc or ring 1 resiliently supported (e.g. by a rubber annulus 10) within a case 11, the mass of the crystal and disc 1 and the stiffeners of the resilient means being such that the system is resonant to a low audio frequency. The case 11 is enclosed within an outer case 23, the mass of the air moving through the openings 7, 15, 21, 25 and the compliance of the air trapped in the several parts of the transmitter being such as to enhance resonance at the selected low frequency of about 400 c.p.s., and constitute an acoustic low-pass filter with respect to sound entering the case by way of opening 25. In a hearing- aid device, the amplifier, battery, volume control, &c. are enclosed in the case 23 ; the aperture 25 represents the summation of the apertures for the shafts of the various control devices.
