Abstract

1523761 Burners; air heating stoves PARKINSON COWAN APPLIANCES Ltd 28 Jan 1976 [14 Feb 1975] 6304/75 Headings F4S and F4T A heat exchanger (in particular for space heating) comprises an elongate combustion unit 10 having the following features (a) a combustion chamber 11, (b) a fuel/air inlet 15 (gas being the preferred fuel) and an exhaust gas outlet 16, both at one end of said unit, (c) a fan, not shown, in a duct connected to or forming part of the exhaust gas outlet 16 for effecting circulation of the fuel/air mixture and combustion products; said unit 10 being mounted on a support (e.g. a plate 20) to which it is connected at the unit end remote from the inlet/outlet 15, 16 by means (shown as a pin and slot connection 22) which permit relative expansion between the combustion unit 10 and its support. The arrangement shown includes a further duct 19 for excess air used to dilute the combustion products passing out of the combustion chamber via passages 13 in a wall of the combustion chamber. The fuel/air mixture enters the combustion chamber via passages 12 in another wall of the combustion chamber. External fins 14 are formed on the unit 10 to heat room air circulated over the unit as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 3.
