Abstract

1517512 Turning loads DAVY-LOEWY Ltd 13 Oct 1975 [15 Oct 1974] 44611/74 Heading B8H [Also in Division B3] An apparatus for turning an elongate workpiece 20 of generally rectangular cross-section through 90 degrees in a direction normal to its length comprises a first member 1 supporting the workpiece, and a second member 11 movable substantially vertically relative to the first member, the member 11 having two relatively angled workpiece supporting surfaces 13, 14 between which the workpiece is gravitationally passed to turn it through 90 degrees before re-deposition on the surface 5 of the first member 1. The second member 11 is pivotally mounted on a pair of links 10 pivotable under the control of a piston and cylinder device 12. In operation, the workpiece 20, after sliding down angled surfaces 6 and 5 of the first member 1 and into engagement with a stop 8 thereon, is lifted by the surface 13 upon extension of the device 12, a stop 15 on the second member 11 locating it relative to the links 10. Further extension of the device 12 causes a wing 17 on the member 11 to engage a stop 18 on the member I, which pivots the member 11 causing the workpiece to slide down the surface 13 on to the surface 14. Continued pivoting of the member 11 until a further stop 16 thereon engages the links 10, deposits the workpiece back on the first member 1 with a 90 degree rotation, whereafter the second member 11 is lowered. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 (not shown) the stops on the second member are replaced by an arcuate slot therein engaging a pin on the links. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 (not shown), the second member is pivoted as its maximum elevation is approached, by an adjustable stop rod connected to the wing of the second member.
