Abstract

In a wirecutter comprising two pivotally connected cutting jaws 5, 6, Fig. 1, the jaw 5 being fixed to an arm 10, 11, 12 and the jaw 6 being connected with an arm 15, 16, 17 by means of an elbow lever comprising a connecting rod 18 pivotally connected at one end to the part 15 and at the other end to the jaw 6, the bearing 14 of the elbow lever is slidable longitudinally with respect to the arm 10 to 12 and means are provided for supporting the bearing against backward movement during cutting. The bearing and a guide 22a, 22b, Fig. 3, are provided with mating locking teeth 14a, 25a, Fig. 1, and the bearing is provided with a shoe 14b resting during opening of the jaws on a smooth face 22c of the guide so that during opening of the jaws the teeth 14a are first lifted from the teeth 25a by tilting of the bearing 14 about the front edge of the shoe 14b so that the bearing is moved forwardly. As soon as the arms are moved together, the teeth 14a, 25a engage each other thereby fixing the bearing against backward movement. The teeth are urged into engagement with each other by means of a pivotally-mounted spring 26. Opening of the jaws is caused by withdrawing and turning a pin 29, Fig. 4, normally mating with a segmental rack 31 secured to the jaw 5. The locking elements for the bearing may comprise an adjustable screw arranged in the wall 10a of the part 10, each of these elements having locking teeth and a transverse bolt is insertable in the teeth of the part 10 e.g. by tilting the bearing. If there is enough friction between the jaws 5, 6, the locking means 29 to 31 may be omitted.
