1442736 Workpiece clamping W R ANDREWS 26 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 13952/74 Heading B3B A clamp comprises a base 1 on which a workpiece 2 is placed, an elongate clamp bar 9 spaced from and extending substantially parallel to the base, means 5 for guiding and retaining the clamp bar 9 for longitudinal movement spaced from the base so that a clamp bolt 38 can overlie the workpiece 2, a handle 13 pivotally mounted about an axis normal to the longitudinal direction of the clamp bar, a first roller 16 mounted on the handle to be rotatable about said axis, a second roller 21 mounted on the handle and making peripheral contact with the first roller 16 and the base 1, a third roller 22 mounted on the handle and making peripheral contact with the first roller 16 and the underside of the clamp bar on the side of the guiding and retaining means 5 opposite to the clamping end, and a pivot means 35, 36 about which the clamp bar 9 rocks to clamp the workpiece 2 when the handle 13 is pivoted. The clamp bar can be manually moved longitudinally or, as shown, the initial movement of the handle 13 acts through a link 26 pivoted by a pin 27 to the handle to advance the clamp bar. Also attached to the link 26 is a cam rod 31 which acts on a pivot plunger 35 so that when the clamp bar is fully advanced, continued movement of the handle drives the plunger 35 into a pivot groove 36 to form the pivot means for the clamp bar 9.
