Abstract

1514711 Fluidized bed vapour generators BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd 11 Aug 1975 [9 May 1974] 20459/74 Heading F4A A fluidized bed vapour generator comprises a grate 32 supporting a bed 18 of fluidized particles and allowing a flow of fluidizing air, and a combustion chamber 4 lined with evaporating tubes and leading to a gas outlet pass containing superheating and economizer tube blanks 26, 28; solid fuel particles to be burnt in the bed being introduced (e.g. through nozzles 36) to a combustion chamber region immediately above the bed 8. Secondary combustion air is admitted at 30 at a region of constriction in the chamber 4. Tubes 16 are bent out of one wall to extend into the bed 18. As an alternative to nozzles 36 the fuel for the bed (e.g. coal and return ash particles) can be discharged through apertures in wall 12. In a lower operating range the bed is arranged so that combustion is substantially completed in the bed. In a higher operating range the fluidizing air flow is held constant (at around 4 feet per second) and the fuel supply is increased.
