Class 51(i) A steam generator includes a combustion chamber having a gas outlet at the upper portion thereof and a mechanical grate 12 and comprises a portion the cross-section of which is increased, relative to that of a lower portion adjacent the grate, to provide a space 13 for the reception and combustion of pulverized fuel, into which space burners 14 discharge sidewardly in such manner that combustion of pulverized fuel from the burner is mainly if not wholly confined to the space.
