Abstract

150,386. Comyn, D. G., and Lea, T. May 21, 1919. Double walls; reinforced block-work walls. - Reinforced concrete structures are constructed with vertical reinforcements interlaced with horizontal reinforcements and also provided with a vertical damp-proof course. The walls are buiit of two rows of blocks A, B having vertical holes and arranged so that a vertical space is left between them into which bitumastic or like material may be poured to form a damp-proof course 14. The buttresses, pillars, &c. F are formed of blocks 9, 10, Fig. 3, having similar vertical holes 11 and a space for the damp proof material. Vertical reinforcements 8 are positioned in certain of the vertical holes, and are bound together by horizontal reinforcements 12, 13, as shown. The blocks are also provided with horizontal and vertical edge grooves to act as keys for the mortar. The buttresses &c. may be dispensed with. The construction is applicable to warehouses, motor garages, tramway sheds, &c., reservoirs, tanks, bridge work &c.
