Abstract

1494085 Building frame unit D LINTON 18 Aug 1975 [17 May 1974] 21938/74 Headings E1K and E1W A building frame unit for a load-bearing wall comprises a rectangular skeletal metal frame 10 composed of spaced-apart elongate longitudinal top and bottom frame members 11, 12, elongate vertical end pillar members 14 and at least one intermediate vertical pillar member 15 parallel to the end frame members. wherein each frame member comprises at least one flanged metal channel section 25 having inturned marginal flanges, each end frame member being a single such section with its mouth presented outwardly whereby it can engage in confronting mouth-to-mouth relationship with the end frame of a similar unit, and at least some of the other frame members being formed by a pair of such flanged sections assembledmouth-to-mouth to provide a box-like elongate structure. The hollow frame members may be filled with a plastics foam material and the open space defined between adjacent frame members, end members or intermediate pillars is closed by a sheet-like closure element composed of plastics material which provides a sealing and insulating barrier, preferably a low-flammability thermally insulating plastics foam material 30. A metal plate 31 may be embedded in the plastics foam as a fire barrier.
