Abstract

The curtain (1) has front and rear walls (11) of asbestos woven material. The upper edges of the walls are held to the ceiling by a metal channel (12) and the lower edges are fixed to a bag (13, 14) of woven asbestos, filled with powdered fireclay (15) to form a seal with the ground when the curtain is dropped. The curtain core is formed by horizontal rods (21) linked together by flexible metal loops (24) held from the ceiling by a bar (22) riveted to the channel. The filling (16) is slabs of asbestos wool glued to front and rear walls and stapled (17) to the flexible metal loops. The horizontal rods end in rollers running in guides fitted in recesses in the sides of a building wall opening.
